Topic #14: Better Creature: Dogs or Cats?

Answer: Hands down, Dogs.

This is my dog Mace. He’s the most loyal dog. While he may look tough on the outside, he’s the biggest scare-dy cat you’ll meet. But he’ll protect his family to the death. Dogs are the best. Here are some more cute pictures of dogs that everyone should enjoy. Also, dogs don’t post stupid pictures of themselves with stupid, misspelled phrases, just sayin’.

Try not to giggle like a girl when looking at these pictures. I know it’ll be hard.

That’s right.

Topic #13: Irrational Fears

This one struck home, because there is one fear that I have, that is completely perfect for this topic: Heights. Also known as: Acrophobia.

I don’t know what it is, but I have this crippling fear of heights. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember, and it really hasn’t changed much over the years.
It’s not as though I can’t function because of this fear, because I really can.  I just find myself afraid when I get close to ledges, staircases, windows of tall buildings, tops of parking garages, and many other normal places. I remember one time I was walking down a set of stairs and slipped and fell and proceeded to catch myself on the outside railing of the stairs with my face toward the ground (however many feet below it was) I nearly passed out. Its okay though guys, I survived and I’m here now to blog about it. No need to worry.

I don’t know where I got this fear from, but I don’t know how to manage it. I’m definitely not the type that hyperventilates or anything, but I DO get weak in the knees and often prefer to be on the inside edge/as far away from the heights view as possible. I even get scared when people “goof off” and pretend like they’re leaning really far over the edge or whatever. It’s just not funny!

Anywho, I can’t really think of any other fears that would be as entertaining as this one/I’m pretty sure the rest of them make sense (dying, being buried alive, etc.)

Topic #12: Christmas

The most wonderful time of the year is our next topic. (HALFWAY THERE)

Christmas is the one time of year where my family REALLY gets together to enjoy each other’s company. We make sure to spend the time together, whether it’s on the actual date, or a week later, we always make time for each other during this part of the year. Obviously, family is very important, especially around the holidays. Occasionally, one of us may have to work on the holiday, so we will find other ways to spend time together, like see a movie (if I’m not working) or eat a meal, or something.  Basically,  I love my family. And Christmast. And everything in this picture.

My friends from home and I also really enjoy celebrating the holidays together. We often do a “secret santa” gift exchange to make sure that no one spends hundreds of dollars for our lot of a group. We usually make it into a super-fun ugly sweater party!

I don’t really want to talk about presents, or Santa, or anything like that. I just really like spending time with my family and friends on this classic day. I hope the rest of you do too.

Topic #11: Twelve Rhyming Couplets.

Okay, here goes nothing!….

I am an elementary teacher.
Some students think I’m just a preacher.
The preacher I knew was always a bit fat.
I hope I can impact them more than that.
I spend all day teaching them parts of speech.
I hope the knowledge will latch onto them like a leech.
We spend 6 hours a day working, trying, learning.
I know I’m not in it for what I’m earning.(HA)
Second grade seems to be the perfect fit for me.
As of right now, I’m doing all of this work for free.
The best teachers don’t just teach, they inspire.
We have to wear specific attire.
We help the ones who everyone gave up on.
The ones upon which the curtains have been drawn.
Just another school day?
To them I say “Nay!”
It’s another chance to learn.
Money is something in their futures they’d like to earn.
If they spend the time
They’ll earn the dime.
Everyday we start anew
Hoping they can learn something new.
Until finally one day they graduate
And thank us for being great.

Topic #10 Where is one place you always wanted to go? Discuss the benefits of this place.

I’ve always wanted to visit Europe. (Who doesn’t?) But, more specifically: England. There’s something so appealing to the country to me, that I can’t quite put my finger on it. I feel like it has a very rich history to it, as well as many significant culture aspects AND English Accents! (of course)

The history of this country is so much richer and full of vigor than our own, it makes me want to spend hours wandering around the oldest cathedrals and in the coolest museums looking at things that are older than our nation itself.

I know a few friends who have visited, and loved everything about it. I wish I could have all of the money to do so, and enjoy every second of it.

Plus, who doesn’t want a cliche picture in one of these?!

Topic #8: Theme Songs for Different Moods/Moments

I enjoy this topic (it’s one of the ones I wrote) mainly because I LOVE music. But, I find myself having a hard time trying to narrow these categories down, but i’ll do my best.

Party Time: Girl Talk

Ever since I heard his music a few years ago, I just love listening to it when I’m in the mood to fist pump. There’s something so mesmerizing about the way he mashes up his songs/beats, I just can’t get enough when it’s time to party.

Homework Time: The Hush Sound

Their music is so fun and relaxing to me. It keeps me upbeat and ready to do things, while still not being overpowering. Their songs are lively and about love and life, so I can’t get enough.

Guilty Pleasures: Glee Soundtrack(s)

These are the songs that I’m not afraid to belt out in public, in the car, in my apartment, pretty much anywhere. There is a lot of awesome music that has been performed on the show, and I find myself enjoying it more as they keep releasing more songs.

Emo/Punk: Fall Out Boy

This is one of my absolute favorite bands, and it tears me to pieces to know that they are no longer together. I’ve listened to them practically since they started. They’re a great mix of pop-punk and emo (i guess) and I know the lyrics to almost every song.

Driving Music: Jukebox the Ghost, Passion Pit, Frightened Rabbit, Say Anything, and Top 40 hits (on ze radio)

All of these bands have a very fun/airy/summery feel to them (for the most part) and they’re some of my favorites to listen to with the windows down on a perfect day.

I mean, there’s lots of different types of music that I enjoy, but these are the specifics I chose for this hour!

Topic #7: Favorite Movie/Book/TV Show.

This one is pretty tricky! But I’m going to write about my absolute favorite movie: The Breakfast Club.

We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.
I know, this might seem cliche, but there are so many positives about this movie, I just can’t get enough. This movie has the audience follow 5 stereotypical teenagers through high school in 1985. We watch as the characters spend an entire day getting to know each other in detention, and realizing that they are more alike then they would ever have known. The Athlete, The Brain, The Criminal, The Basket Case, and The Princess. We watch as they deal with problems and get to know each other in new ways. Every single time I watch this movie, I still feel the pain in each character as they relay what they are most upset about in their lives. I can still feel the silence in the room after Bender screams about his family and everyone realizes this is the life he really leads. I find myself wondering if this actually happened in real life, and they just happened to be filming there for some reason. To me, this movie is timeless, just like the characters.

The movie ends with one of my absolute favorite quotes ever:

“Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did was wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us… In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.

But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely,

the Breakfast Club.”

It’s true. In our own way, we all each are an athlete, a brain, a princess, a basket case, and a criminal, we just choose to highlight them in different ways.

Topic 6: Friends

This is my favorite topic so far, because this is one of my absolute favorite things. Friends are what make the world go ’round. They always seem to be there when you need them, and even when you don’t. Personally, I really enjoy having different types of friends because I like knowing different people, and  having people to hang out with no matter where I’m at.

Category #1: Highschool friends.

I’ve had the same few friends since my freshman year of high school. These girls have met the world to me and we have been through highs and lows and have come out stronger. I wouldn’t trade any of these ladies for anything.

Category #2: Work Friends

I really find it important to make friends with people at work, especially if we are going to spend a lot of time together. I’ve had many jobs in the past, but as of current, my friends at the theater have really been tried and true.

Category #3: College Friends

I have a few different groups of college friends, and i find it important to hang out with different types of people, because I feel like they keep me on my toes. I made some AMAZING friends my first year here at Purdue, and we all ruled our 3rd floor at Harrison Hall.

Category#4: The Crazy Monkeys

I have a feeling this group of people will come up Non-stop in my blog, but it’s for good reason. Other than my high school friends, these are the best friends that I’ve EVER had before. We have the same sense of humor, while being completely different from each other. I wouldn’t change them for the world.

Category #5: Miscellaneous

These are the friends that fall into your life for no reason, but you can’t seem to understand why. Also, these are the ones that may fit more than one category.

ps. I RAN OUT OF TIME. if i had the whole hour, OH BOY.

Topic #5: Alter-Egos

This topic is pretty funny, because I’ve already touched on it in my funniest moments blog. I , indeed, have an alter-ego who goes by the name of LOREN COLE. All caps is necessary, because she’s just that phenomenal.

Loren spawned from a picture taken of me (see blog-day post 2) in which I just look ridiculous. So, of course, from this picture, a character was created. This character isn’t meant to offend, she’s just more of a lax personality than others would think. And since this photo, every other strange, terrible, awful picture taken of me, has turned into LOREN. Believe me, I have little, to no control of it. (Thanks to Shauvon McGill) The funniest part of it all, is after a Facebook page was made for her, there were at least 3 or 4 people who befriended this version of me before realizing it wasn’t actually me. Sometimes I question whether or not these people are my real friends.(I think they like her better)

Anywho, who needs a special-superhero-alter-ego, when I have Loren?

Just keep her in mind the next time you try to talk to me on a serious topic. I dare you.
